Client: Luminary Energy Tool: Genially
Luminary Energy is a green-energy startup with a strong feedback culture. They needed onboarding training to prepare all new hires to give, receive, and navigate feedback in every direction. I created a 20-minute interactive module that combined brand-aligned visuals, realistic workplace scenarios, and a conversational tone to make the feedback process feel like something anyone could do. You can demo it here.
I first developed a brand voice guide to define Luminary's tone, rhythm, and sense of humor.
From there, I mapped out the storyboard. The advanced organizer helps learners build a mental map of frameworks before diving into the content. Each scenario places learners in realistic Luminary situations where their decisions have consequences. Distractor choices reflect an instinct a real person might have (avoidance, over-aggression, softening).
When building out the visual design, I assigned each framework a set color. This also helps with mental mapping/reinforcement and is used again in the associated job aid.
Key Decisions:
Style guide: Luminary had no guide, so I developed one from scratch.
No grading: Luminary wanted learners to use these feedback frameworks, not memorize them. I pushed them to leave the training ungraded, as penalizing them for attempting something new could result in them not trying at all. Instead, we leaned on scheduled touchpoints with their team (Friday debriefs, Slack channels, and their 1-month meeting) as real-life reinforcement moments.
The result is a 20-minute interactive experience built in Genially. You can demo it here.
Brand-first design: Built against a custom voice and style guide so every word feels like Luminary.
Four-framework toolkit: SBI, SBAR, AID, and courageous inquiry are taught with concept, context, and a branching scenario.
Realistic distractors: Wrong answers reflect real human instincts.
Drag and drop knowledge check: Tests whether learners can identify the right framework for an unlabeled situation — the actual skill, not just recall.
Luminary Voice & Content Style Guide
Luminary did not have their own brand voice and style guide, so I created one from scratch. This helped carry their voice through the training.
Luminary Feedback Job Aid
This job aid is mentioned in the training twice and is provided to employees as both a digital artifact and a laminated resource. It utilizes the same colors as the training to help with recall.
